Some Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start planning for college?

Ideally, you start planning for college when you begin high school. Join clubs, engage in the classroom, cultivate your curiosity, maintain an impressive GPA, and plan for enriching summer activities. It's going to look different for everyone. So, don't feel stressed if you got serious about your college plans your senior year. No matter when you begin planning for college, there is a perfect school for you.

Should I drive 5 hours to take the SAT since no testing sites nearby were available?

No. So many colleges are test-optional this year, there is no reason to inconvenience yourself with the anxiety of testing and driving a long distance. In fact, many colleges are echoing "No test, less stress." Colleges across the US have quickly adapted way of evaluating candidates for admissions and want to assure you that your "review is based on what students send to us, not what is excluded." You will not be at a disadvantage by not sending test scores to these schools.

Colleges are looking for all these extracurriculars, but I take care of my younger siblings. Does that mean I'm not good for college?

Many students have family responsibilities that they overlook. Please give yourself credit for being valuable to the success of your family! Taking care of younger siblings is a lot tougher than many extracurriculars - you have to master time management, you are responsible for the well-being of another person, you are worthy of trust. Definitely take a moment to give yourself credit for balancing both schoolwork and family responsibilities.
